All the reasons I love the Rain

It's so cold outside.
The wind is unforgivable.
Dark clouds form,
A petty response to the sun.

A weather so gloomy,
A weather so blue.
Then, the cisterns burst,
The showers begin to pour,

And nature begins to tremble.
Yet, I light up, like the sky at noon day,
My insides jump for joy,
My feet are swift to my wardrobe.

I slip into plain clothes,
I grab my wellies,
And take large strides towards the arch,
The very last protection from the rain.

And while the earth quivers,
I dance, I move, I run, I embrace.
I feel her passion,
It mirrors my heart.

I feel her outburst,
It reflects my aching eyes.
I walk, I roll, I skip, I fly.
Oh how good it is to feel your dominance.

And as she slows down
And she quietens,
She shields me and conceals my tears.
And as she abates,

And as the earth stills
Her wind caresses and soothes me.
And while the last of her dam empties,
The drops hold a promise...

…that she will always return,
All the reasons I love the rain.
