Freshly baked bread in the early morning
Nothing like being woken up by the smell.
Or Akara at mid day
To remind you it's a Saturday of rest
Nothing like the bole in the afternoon
To devour in pant and singlet after school
Then there's suya whose seduction works at night
To munch in the evenings with toothpick
And during corn season you smell the lot
Could be boiled, or roasted or grilled or soaked
How sweet is the scent of onunu
Delicately paired with fisherman stew or pepper soup
So delectable is the smell of egusi
Though it pairs with swallow, rice does as much justice
Oh to get a whiff of finger licking good native soup
That would be the way I'd feast on it
And how could I forget jollof rice
That throw all into nostalgia by its aroma
Now white rice is a killer
the starchy smell does deliver
Most of my favourite scents
Are foods of my national decent.
